They probably want to clear out 4870X2s first. Not only that, but the 4870X2 is already a heat monster, so a 4890 X2 would just be a more overclocked version that generates even more heat. We'll see what happens soon enough.

Probably, I remember they made a X1950PROX2 and a HD2600XTX2. They were completely useless but Sapphire went for it anyway. At least putting two high end GPUs together would actually make sense.
Yes that's a well known fail card...oh wait no it isn't!
Seriously. That is pretty much the best bang for the buck you can still get. The card hangs right with the much more expensive 4870x2 in many benchmarks.
Guess Ill have to ignore Annands findings on the 4850x2, as they said it was a great card in their multi card/scaling review

You have no clue. You should actually read about hardware instead of just looking and waiting for charts.
The 4850X2 is a disaster, its a nightmare. You have a 50/50 chance of actually getting drivers to stick, let alone having the card work right. Not to mention its physically larger than a 4870X2. The card fails in every way.
The 4850X2 is junk. I win, you all lose. Really. Buy a 4870X2 instead or just two 4850s.

Wel I don't think they can build a 4890x2 i heard somewhere that because it's TDP would be too high, in fact past the ATX standard. Apparently percard it is 180w TDP and 360w is past the standard.
Not shocked. No purpose for the 4870+ whatsoever then...
and what exactly is a 4870+??
Why keep speculating, just wait for the benchies. Theres no need for a 4890X2, this card is just going to replace the 4870 like the GTX285 replaced the GTX280, a bit more speed, cheaper to manufacture and uses less power, its a price war, thats the only purpose. We know theres a 5800/5800X2 in the works.
