I have an old laptop which has S-video output. I connected that laptop with my TV's S-video input using S-video cable, and I was able to see the computer screen on my TV.
I have another newer laptop which does not have any S-video ouput. So I bought an VGA to S-video cable, actually it was a Y cable that had one S-video output and one RCA Video output (the other end was VGA). Anyway I tried to connect that laptop to the TV from VGA to S-Video using this adapter and I am not able to see the desktop on my TV. The laptop has a Fn+3 key combination to switch between the displays and it appears like it is trying to switch between the display modes because it goes from the normal high resolution display to very low resolution display to no display (probably sending signals over to TV but nothing is being displayed there).
Clearly the issue is not in the S-video cable that I have since it works on one laptop when I connect S-Video Out on that laptop to S-video In of the TV. However when I try to connect VGA Out on laptop to S-Video in of TV via the adapter/converter, that's when it does not work. Do I have to do something special to make it work? Or is the Y converter/adapter is bad?
