I am about to get a bluray drive but dont know for sure which one to get or what software I need.

What I want to be able to do is rip bluray movies with out losing any video or sound quality to my external hdd.
1.) Do I need a bluray burner or would a bluray reader work?
2.) Which program would you recommend to rip the movie without losing any quality?

I have done some searches but have not been able to find the answer I am looking for.

You don't need a BD burner to rip BDs. A BD player will suffice and will save you a pile of cash.

Look at AnyDVD HD (http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvdhd.html) for your ripping needs.

Last, make sure you have lots of disk space.....Good luck!
