DI624 disconnecting problems

Last response: in Wireless Networking
Share

Hello,

I've got problems with my DI624 disconnecting for a few minutes, regaining connection and losing it again.
I'm connected to the device with the G520+ 54Mbit
wireless networkcard.

Clicking on status/DHCP renew gives a failed error
during this time. According to my provider (@home),
there is no problem with the cable modem, which seems
to be confirmed by that fact that pulling the power
from the DI624 and rebooting seems to solve the problem
(for a little while at least).

I was using FW 1.29 (for revision B) and downgraded
to 1.25 (seems to also give problems). Has anyone
experienced simular problems or have an idea on how
to solve it?

Regards
/Roger

associated with your problem in your other post id say you have some bad hardware there.

wpdclan.com cs game server - 64.246.52.144:27015
now featuring valve security module!

what kind of phone do you have (2.4Gs)?

do you have the "right" drivers for your WC?
how often the connection drops?
when?
do you use encription?
how do you resolve the problem?
have you called DLink?
what firmwere do you use (as far as I know 1.28 is the latest, not 1.29)

Do you have a software firewall like ZoneAlarm running? I had this same issue when I had ZA running and forgot to ADD my local network as a "trusted" source. The DHCP packets are seen as "trouble" to the firewall and it cause it to disconnect. If you have a firewall running disable it and see if that solves your problem. If it does, re-enable it and configure it to allow traffic from your 192.168.0.xx network.

This router is a piece of junk. I have one and it gives me random disconnects all the time. I called D-Link Tech Support and they are no good in resolving the issue. I even RMA'd the product and they sent me a new one. The new one has the same problem. The DI-624 SUCKS period.

For the record,

My phone operates on 1850-1900Mhz - so this is not in
the 2.4Ghz range of the di624

It happens on two computers
1. G520 card util 2.42, driver 2.1.3.1
2. G520+ card fw1.0.11, driver4.0.40.1, util 1.00

Encryption is turned on WAP, 128 bits
The connection drops often, eg every 30 mins - 2 hours

1.28 seems to be the latest firmware according to
dlink.com - but there is a warning to not take us-
firmware with eu devices, so I took firmware from
ftp://ftp.dlink.co.uk/di_broadband_gateways/di-624_rev_...
and there (interestingly) is version 1.29...

Note, I emailed dlink (interesting www.dlink.nl tells
you ask for support on www.dlink.se which tells you
to look for support on www.dlink.de)

I posted a problem description to www.dlink.de
and email someone from dlink-nl which helped me
previously with another problem - but no response
so far.

Also, there is no software firewall running on the
computer (at least I didn't install anything; maybe
windows has some strange settings?)

Update:

I have two computers with a wireless card, one with
the G520, the other with the G520+.

I noticed that if the G520+ drops connection, the
G520 would still be connected. So I entered the DI624
setup and it would report both wireless devices were
still connected (even after clicking refresh several
times).

This got me to think that the problem might not be with
the DI624, but with the G520 cards.

Looking for newer drivers brought me to the following link:
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10224912~mode=fl...

Some guy installed us robotics wireless drivers for his
dlink card. I did the same and well... at least the driver
works, my device is reported now as a "us robotics 802.11
G wireless turbo adapter"

btw - it's very interesting that the us robotics wireless
tool looks remarkable like the dlink tool (most striking
is the color - yellowish background instead of blue and
green link-bars instead of red).

Well, let's see what happens to the disconnect problems.

well, i have G650 so probably that's why i have no such problems, even thogh with the latestest driver it can't connect AT ALL, so I am using pre-latestest and cruising well.

Everything seems to work out perfectly - not a single
disconnect today.

Next time I need a wireless device I'll take a closer
look at u.s. robotics - at the very least they have
working driver software.

D-Link customer service didn't reply to any of my mails
asking for help... maybe someone should tell them how
to solve the disconnect problem :p

you don't have to restart (off/on) the router, just using your wired PC go into settings, and click apply button somewhere (on any screen) it restarts without powering off. Wired connection usually disconnects for a few seconds, but it comes back as nothing happened. It is common on most "home" routers. DON'T use any 2.4Gz phones. I went back to 900Hz and they are actually sound better ;)

They generally offer better range as well. Ultimately the audio quality will be better on a 2.4 Ghz phone. A quality one anyway. Oh, and of course it's not common. Perhaps in your experience and that is unfortunate. I'd RMA it if you can or replace it with better gear. You shouldn't just accept problems regardless of the pricepoint. Most SOHO routers, my guess would be in the 80% range, work well out of the box and continue to do so. SOunds like your really unlucky.
Edited by kwebb on 06/11/04 06:14 PM.

@Donniedarko:

Yes, the wired pc also lost connection _often_.
The problem is mainly in the drivers - for
more info, look here
http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10224912~mode=fl...

Oh, recently DLink released new drivers for the G520+,
I tried them but same connection-lost-problem again.
So I'll stick with us robotics for the moment.

note:
* encryption is turned on again and doesn't give any problems with us robotics drivers.
*I've turned off dhcp in the router and assigned ip adresses to my computers myself.
* for security I turned off ssid broadcast and
enabled mac-adresses check, note that besides
the mac-adresses of the wireless cards, you
also have to enter mac adresses of networkcards
connected over the switch (run ipconfig/all
on the local windows pc to find it)
