Can I use Sata II drives on Sata III port

I would like to build a new system using a MSI 870A-G54 motherboard with USB 3.0 and Sata 6Gbs. But I would like to use a 500GB Seagate Sata 3Gbs drive recently purchased. Would this combinantion work?

More about sata drives sata port
  1. SATA 6 Gbps should be backwards compatible with 3 Gbps and 1.5 Gbps.

I myself have the ASUS p7p55de (SATA 6Gbps) with three HDD 3Gbps connected.

It will work fine, sata 6 is fully backward compatible.
