512 or 1 gig

So whats the difference between a GeForce 9800 gtx+ with 512 and one with 1g of memory

Right now the price is the same on newegg.

I dont have duel monitors and game in 1280 x 1024

More memory helps when playing games at a high resolution.
If the price is the same why not get the 1 gig anyway. =]

I figured i would but i just wondered what the difference was

So as im browsing newegg i see one of the 512's have G92 in the title. Is this an update to tis software? Is it something that i should be aware of or does it not make a difference

G92 simply refers to the GPU chip itself; it's a code name.

Based on what I've read all 9800GTX were built using 65nm G92 cores. The newer 9800GTX+ are built around 55nm G92 cores.

If they are the same, you might as well get the 1GB. Double check the ram speed however, as sometimes they might be clocked a bit slower due to the extra ram. This happens on slower cards (512MB DDR3 or 1GB DDR2.), not sure if it applies to the 9800GTX+. You won't need the extra ram for the resolution you play at, but perhaps a larger monitor is in your future.
