I use my PC for mostly gaming. I also use it for making my movies, some typing work and some photo and video work. Thanks remember 200$ budget, what should we do here?

Maybe get a sound card or some nice speakers/headphones

Maybe a quad core, do you do intensive video work like HD stuff?

asus m4a78 plus mb + phenom II 720 for 208.99 you can beat that for that price. Because of the video things and gaming you do I think it would be perfect. Plus later on you can upgrade the cpu without upgrading the mb. The way AMD does their sockets its very easy to upgrade and you can plan for the future with little cost.

q6600 is $19 over your budget @ newegg... But it would help quite a bit for your video work. It also overclocks quite nicely.

Definitely a quad core so yeah most likely a Q6600.Just one question: When do you plan on buying a new system (not because this one is bad it's good) because if you want a new one in a relatively short period than this upgrade may only cost you some money.

Save some more money and buy a bigger monitor. Everything else is just fine.
My monitor is only 19", but man it would suck to have to use a 17" again.

quad core, graphic card doesn't get fully utilized at that resolution

+1 For the quad option for multimedia encoding. Either the Q6600 or a Q9XXX series, this will be the last worthwhile upgrade this MB will probably support anyway.

If your media encoding speed isn't currently your concern, then upgrading is probably not worth it at all.

but the intel is going to easily blow his $200 budget. doesnt solve his problem at all. the Q6600 is now going to be intels "old" socket 775, by itself is 220, which is retarded. your not going not nearly going to see and difference between a Q6600 and a phenom II 720 which can easily be overclocked to 3ghz stable on air.

You haven't mentioned any problems you face doing what you do. That would tell us where to focus, and whether $200 is enough to solve the problem.

My fear is that you could spend $200, and not see any meaningful impact. Then, a few months from now, you will try to run some games that just don't work on your configuration. And you will likely need more than $200 to fix that.

You're happy with your screen. I wouldn't be, but that's just me. You can't Crossfire without a new mobo. A new cpu - even a quad - is likely to improve some things you do very slightly, but may well have a negative impact on your gaming, especially if you MMO. Spending $200 to cram an AMD in so you can upgrade again later while replacing a perfectly servicable 3 GHz duo is just . . . er, unsound. You'd only do that for ideological reasons lol.

Save your money, and wait until you can't do something you want to do. Then you will have more money, and can really do what needs to be done.

alright well yeah basically im a gamer, i don't have a next-gen console because I use my computer for most of the newest games on the market and have done some MMORPGS as well. So there is the focus, other then that I do some work on my computer with photos, music, burning movies and some typing work, that's about it and nothing too intensive in those categories.
