Looking for Quiet

I do some light gaming (ie WoW) Dont plan on doing anything more demanding than whatever the next MMO realeased will be.

My current computer is a Dell I bought in early 2001

I dont need anything crazy, looking to spend 600-700 dollars. ( already have monitor/keyboard)

From what ive seen was planning on the 9800 gtx+ or whatever they have decided to call it, but most definately open to sugestions.

Most of all I want it to be Quiet I have a strong dislike for ambient noise.

Suggestions on whole builds, specific parts, or just recomendations to keep the noise level down would Be appreciated

quiet components often cost a bit more , and most powerful gfx cards are loud when they are loaded .

But there is a solution thats very cheap . Put the computer in another room just run usb keyboard/mouse/dvd drive and then a long dvi cable for the monitor . This wont work for every one but its the cheapest way to make a silent pc .


For your usage Id suggest

e7300/7400 intel C2D
Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3 mb
4 gb of RAM [ 2x 2 gb dual channel kit ]
320 gb hard drive from either samsung [ quiet] or western digital [ almost as good ]

An Antec p 182 case is built for quietness .
Power supply from seasonic/corsair/PC power and cooling . 550 watts will be plenty

Heh, Hadnt thought about the other room. I have a walk-in Closet right next to my desk.

Quiet GPU: (usually I would be worried about heat, but apparently its not too bad, and should do well with WoW. You could go with a passively cooled 4670, which will generate less heat, but may struggle with WoW, depending on the res you use to play.)

Comes to $704 with shipping then you get $55 MIR...so that could work for you. The only thing is that quiet and cooling aren't that compatible, with that case its limited on fans which you would want to cool that GPU (it sacrifices fan mounts for foam sound insulation). However if you chose a case that had good ventilation and quiet fans you might get the same noise effect, I have the CM 690 case which is pretty quiet, and cheaper by $10 and has excellent cooling

if you are ahppy with your dell and only do a bit of WOW why not have another dell?

dells are historically nice and quiet, and this one will be more than powerful enough for your needs.

you could build a whole system but i suspect this would fill all your needs.
