Hello I am looking to spend around $900 at newegg for a new system build.

I am asking for help since I have been out of the tech scene for so long the last system I built for myself was over 6 years ago.

I will use the system for Gaming / and multi tasking many programs for my job such as multi website tabs open and server monitoring software. Also I burn a lot of DVDs in my business.

I'm looking for a Intel system not amd. (Bad experience with amd in the past.) Is i7 doable for around $900 or would your recommend one of the new quad cores or core2duo.

Thanks

Adam.

While $900 won't get you much, you can build enough for what you describe... as long as you have a monitor, keyboard, and mouse.

Intel Q8200 + combo deal with PSU
Xigmatek CPU cooler
MX-2 thermal paste
This will get you a fairly good option. You'll easily bump this processor up to a fairly fast frequency, and it will last just fine. You can always upgrade it later as well. The cooler will let you overclock it well, along with the stable PSU and well cooled case.

Gigabyte P45 motherboard
G.Skill PI Black 800 Mhz RAM

Cooler Master 690 case
Corsair 550W PSU + combo deal with CPU

Sapphire 4870 1GB Actually a fairly strong graphics card for the price.

WD 640GB Caviar Black
DVD Burner

That's about $900, before rebates, with shipping.

If you don't have the OS yet, that will be another 100 bucks.

Ok, I have two builds on here for you. The first one is if you do not plan on overclocking, and the second build is if you do plan on overclocking. I added a burner with "Lite Scribe" seeing how you burn alot of DVD's...it might come in handy. If you already have Windows, replace that video card from my builds with the 1 gig ATI 4870 that Proximan posted in his build.

Just a thought... why are we putting 4870's in the build when he didn't mention 1 word about gaming? Just a thought. If he's not gaming, something like this 4670 would be MORE than ample.

Read his post again...very slowly this time. Yes he did mention gaming. and quote;
