What games do you play and at what resolution? If you game at 16x10 (most 22" LCD monitors) then the 512MB card will be fine. I'm not sure/convinced about what will happen to the current prices once the 4890 gets released. Most people say that the 4890 will replace the 1GB 4870. I don't think the 4870 will go away, it will just be a new SKU. 4890 > 4870 > 4850. If I'm right, the 4870 won't really get much cheaper, there will simply be the new even faster card at the $260 price point.

Are the prices you mentioned USD or CAD? If those are CAD, you should buy them, aren't the 512MB cards normally $230+?

its ncix. so its @ CAD..

if 4890 1GB offers a faster speed then 4870 1GB for a less or equal price.

then i guess i should get the 4890 then?

but card are usually more expensive in CAD... so im kinda torn..

and o yea. im gonna play on a 24 inch 1080p..

resolution? im not sure.. i dont DEMAND extreme like 60fps + at MAX resolution.

i want the game to look how it suppose to look. thats all. at a reasonable fps(no lag)

1080p = 1920x1080..

so definitely go with a 1gb 4870/4890. you dont wanna go below your panel's native resolution while gaming. it doesnt only look ugly, its vomit inducing.

I'd be willing to bet that 4890 will drop to $199 within a month.

They just hiked up the prices on the 4870 1gb yesterday so they can boost their 4890 sales.. Just wait for a month or two. Never buy a new card once it comes out... 4890 price will go down in a month and so will the price of 4870 1gb. I would wait, well unless cash is of no importance to you.

All of the reviews are finding that the 4890 is only 10% faster than the 4870, and they conclude that the 10% difference is meaningless and not worth $50 more.

Correct, 4890 will give you 3 to 5 fps more in games unless you OC the card to 1000Mhz Gpu then you can get from 8 to 10 fps more.

The advantage of this card is that it runs cooler, uses less power and it OCs very well. I guess is up to you to justify if you would like to spend $60 more to have this card.

It doesn't use less power. Definitely doesn't use less power.

But is still an excellent card.

I was talking about power usage of 4870 OCed to 850 or close to 850 and a stock 4890.
HD 4890 uses less power to achieve this clock that 4870 would use to even get close to it....
