How to overclock

I read the article about overclocking the E8600 with great interest. I am currently using a Xeon E3110 (C2D E8400) and would like to investigate overclocking and affect it would have on efficiency/performance. Just don't know hot to do this. Is there a guide that would point me to how to overclock safely and what to look out for? It seems that if the E8600 is this responsive that the E8400 should likewise be responsive and the improvements would be very worth while.
