hey everybody i need some help, my current cpu is a 955be at stock with stock fan, its running at 40-42 idle and 57 full load this cannot be normal but im guessing its my stock heatsink as its always running at 100%, im looking at buying a cheap cpu cooler these are the ones i had in mind

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

any ideas on which one i should get, or any otherones for around that price?

(also its not my airflow i have an antec 600 with incredible airflow so im guessing its the heatsink)

More about : heatsink 57c normal

The heatsink will have dimension info usually through the vendor that sells it.

i looked but the heat sink says
120 x 120 x 25 mm

and the case dimension is
19.40" x 8.30" x 19.30"

so idk

Seriously a trusty tape measure, and an online conversion chart should git er done.

either i did it wrong or 120mm = 4.7 inches

No that sounds pretty close, figure how big the very common 120mm fans are.

hmm so it should fit fine with room to spare i think

Cool just double check, cause it would really suck if you got the thing, then no joy.

well i have a 120mm exhaust fan at the back of my case so im guessing it would fit
but i will double check thanx man

@ Masik - the dimension you gave are for the fan and not the cooler itself.............. hyper 212 plus dimensions are here http://new.coolermaster.com/upload/product_feature/Hype...

now im confused if it would fit in my antec 600
is there a fan you would recomend that would fit inside my case?

OK lets see.........

antec 600 specs are 491mm (H) x 212mm (W) x 492mm (D)........

hyper 212 plus specs are 158.50mm (H) x 120mm (W) x 77mm (D).......

I dont see a problem with the depth and width of the cooler.......... 120mm against 491mm and 77mm against 491mm.........now the height of the cooler against the width of the case.........

height of cooler - 158.50mm
mobo + cpu offset - 20 to 25mm
sidefan - 25mm

total 203 to 208 mm against 212mm.......... technically should be OK.......... but measure the height available from the top of the cpu to the side door.......... if its 190mm (extra for side fan if you may need one) or above you should be OK............

can you tell me if 40c idle and 57c full load normal for a 955be
and its kinda cold where i am at (southern california) at the moment
so when it gets hotter here im sure that it will rise in temp\

as long as the temps dont go above 70c in any scenario, you are safe.......... 70c is the bench temp for CPU to operate optimally for longer life............

amd says the max temp for this cpu is 62c
thats why im a little worried

what volt are u running in your 955be????? 1.3 to 1.32v is acceptable......... if you are running more, lower it and you'll see the temps drop............. but i guess 70c is acceptable for any cpu, let alone 955be.............70c is the Max ..... if you want the Chip to last

The hyper 212+ fits in an antec 300, so the 600 should be fine.
Also, the temps you are getting look pretty normal for a stock CPU cooler.
An upgrade to a hyper 212+ should help a lot.

should be better........ but the safest bet i would place will be on 212 plus........ its just a few $s more........ don't compromise on tried and tested quality product............

Max temp for the 955BE is 62C.

You should be running under 60C under all conditions.

I don't know where abully is getting the 70C number. Every CPU has a different thermal max.
