It's a MB embedded GeForce 6100 in an eMachine W3107 with an NV-4E chipset (info from SI-Soft lite). The motherboard is an FIC K8MC51G. SAUNDRA says it's old and needs to be updated. I go to nVidia, they send me back to eMachine that has a messed up FTP file system. No problems finding the driver, but I haven't been able to locate the BIOS update for it. The current version is 5.51.22.26.0 and I haven't had any problems, however I do like to keep the system up to date and there may be hidden laws that have been corrected in a new version. Any help is appreciated!
Thank You Evongugg. I've been there and done that about 2 months ago. Forgive me as I'm new to goofing with video cards/gpus, but I was thinking the video card itself had it's own bios and that's what SAUNDRA was indicating needed to be updated. I found a tool from nVidia that does a great job at identifying and getting the updated drivers for all the nVidia components on the MB. What a mess: an eMachine built by Gateway with an FIC board loaded with nVidia components -sheesh.
In this case, the update would be covered by the update you suggested, but is there a separate bios for an independent video card? (I have a 7900GS that I may reinstall to try to use SLI with the 6100, but this is a cheap machine and I haven't found any information indicating the MB being SLI capable)
There may be a bios for a separate video card.
Check with the manufacturer.
Originally to use SLI the video cards had to be identical – same GPU, same manufacturer and even same BIOS version. From GeForce driver release 80 on nVidia relaxed a little bit and now the video cards can be from different manufacturers, but they must be based on the same GPU. This rule is valid for all versions of SLI (SLI, Quad SLI and Three-way SLI).
