I want to plug a hard drive into an eSata port. But I don't want to buy a cabinet to do it, I just want to have cables and the hard drive.
Can I simply buy an eSata to Sata cable, plug the Sata end to the hard drive, and the eSata end to the mother board? And then to power the drive, can I just buy a splitter or something and take power from one of the regular Sata power cables?

That is similar to breadboarding, except there, you do away with the case completely.
