First system build. I've installed all the hardware. The motherboard is a P5KPL-CM. When I turn on the system the monitor is blank and I don't get a BIOS message or anything... it's just blank. The monitor does have power to it. The monitor is hooked up to the VGA port. Should it be hooked up the the video card port instead? The P5KPL-CM has an LED on the motherboard and when I power up it lights up green. What am I doing wrong?
I guess when you install a video card you can no longer use the VGA port. Hooking direct to the video card solved the problem. Why it solved the problem I have no idea.
You're talking about the VGA video port that's on the motherboard itself? I assume that the BIOS is smart enough to disable the motherboard video if there's a PCIe video card installed.
Your motherboard has integrated graphics. It's output goes to the vga port on the motherboard.
If you have an add-in card, it will perform much faster, and should be the primary monitor port. Your monitor should be attached to it.
It should be possible to connect a second monitor to the integrated vga port also. It is a bios setting which will determine which connection is primary and gets the boot messages.
