A delayed write is either a full drive or a hard drive failure, there may still be something in the cache of the drive that isn't able to transfer. If you can get your drive to connect, Download Western Digital Life Guard Tools and run a scan on your HD. Do you transport your drive? If it was recently bumped it may be slightly off track, it might correct itself (experience), and you could find errors on the drive, and possibly bad sectors. Try turning the drive off, trying to get it to connect, if nothing happens and there's no "safely remove" option, turn it off and turn it back on again a few times. Don't try the freezer idea with the drive, it isn't a good option and you'll risk more than you'll be gaining short term vs long.
