Hi guys,
I've finally got the money to upgrade my pc.
currently I've got q6600 no overclock, 3gb DDR2 ram on 32-bit Vista.

I'm planning to play games on 20inch 1680x1050 monitor.

Will I notice a significant difference between 4850 512mb and 4870 1gb and gtx260? I'm looking at the benchmarks and they look kinda simmilar.
I also want the card to be future proof. It should last me at least for next 2 years or so.

Will this OCZ StealthXStream 600w PSU be good enough for them?

What is your budget?

Get the gtx 260 core 216 over the ati 1gb 4870
But get the 4870 1gb of the older gtx 260

Also what is your motherboard, and what are the main games you play. Yes the 600w is enough for for any of these cards.

My budget is roughly 200£.

Then this is the one I should go for?:
GeForce GTX 260 "Core 216 55nm" 896MB GDDR3

motherboard is nForce 610i / GeForce 7050 (integrated graphics). And it's PCI-E x16 1.0...

Main games will be COD, Far Cry 2, Assassins Creed, Prince of Persia, Mirrors edge. Nothing fancy although it would be cool if I could run crysis...

Yes the gtx 260 core 216 will beat the 4870 1gb in almost all of those titles. You should also be able to play Cryis on High DX10 and Very High DX9 at least 30fps. If you overclock you may even be able to play Very High DX10. As the gtx 260 core 216 matches the performance of the gtx 280 when overclocked.

I think you will be very happy with this card.

For pity's sake do not buy a 260 or 4870 right now at the 200 euro mark.

GTX 275, better than the 4890 and you can get one from scan for £199.99!

If not get a GTX 260 core 216 from them, the cheapest one is £130 ex vat with a 45mhz core oc and Far Cry 2.

the 275 from newegg will land you a free Cod:WaW, too bad you're from the UK.

i say whichever is cheaper between a gtx275/4890.

4870 1GB is on par with the GTX260 216 core, and the 4870 512mb is on par with the GTX260 192 core.

Get the 4870 now because it's much cheaper, and maybe a dx11 card in the future
