Hi, I've gone through the manual for the 790FX-GD70, but it only mentions that you are able to connect a 20pin instead of a 24pin. However, I would like to know if it is manditory to connect an 8pin CPU power connector. My power supply has a 24pin and 4pin connector, would that work? If not, could I purchase a 4pin to 8pin adapter? If I were to do this, I would like to know if there are going to be any drawbacks.

Thanks for the help.

It would be helpful to know what kind of power supply you have. Generally it is better to have a native connector instead of an adapter. Also, any modern board will have a 24-pin connector, not a 20-pin.

Yes. Just did it myself on an MSI MB. Got the single beep.
