Video card(s) for new build

2 gtx 260's or 1 gtx 295?

1 GTX 285, this is more than enough for today's games, and gives you the option of adding a second for even better results.

If you go with 2 260s, and want to upgrade, you have replace both of them.
The 295 is fast, but the dual GPU cards generally do not scale as well, and there is better driver support for single GPU cards, like the GTX285.

a 295 is a bit expensive but i was thinking futureproof

What resolution are you playing at? If its 19x12 or bigger, than the 295 might be better for the extra video RAM, but anything less and the GTX285 will be superb.

Agreed - the 285 should be a monster for you. You can always get another later (if you have an SLI mobo), or by that time, buy the next great GPU.
