Hi I got a Radeon HD 3450 for next to nothing with free shipping from newegg. Im trying to install it as a crossfire set up with my integrated Radeon HD 3200. I have a 780G mobo. According to Gigabytes owners manual to enable crossfire in my BIOS I set the following settings:
Internal Graphics Mode: UMA
UMA buffer size: 256
Surround View: Disabled
Init Display First: Onboard
I have XP 32-bit and WIndows 7 64-bit dual booted on my system. When I boot to XP i can see both graphics cards in the device manager, so I go into CCC and enable crossfire. The system restarts when the xp desktop is done loading it gives me a BSOD and restarts, this would be a constant loop. I boot to the Windows 7 install and enable crossfire and it loads no problem. Any ideas why I am getting the BSOD with my XP install, and any way around it?
I dont need a fix I just boot into safe mode on XP and uninstall the hd 3450. I am wondering how to enable without the BSOD.
I think you will find that xp doesn't support your set up. Since you said that if you boot into windows 7 it works then i would say switch xp to vista. It should work since windows 7 is based on vista
Ya thats what I was thinking. I actually installed XP 64-bit and got the crossfire working, but my 3Dmark06 score was in the 3600's and the same setup in Windows 7 got just shy of 4000. Not bad considering just the onboard clocked at 950mhz scored in the 1900's with XP 32-bit. I didnt expect much but for 29.99 with free shipping the increase is worth it till I have enough money to get a high end PCI-E. Im going to try and reinstall a fresh XP 32-bit and enable crossfire if I get the same results im going to Vista, I have an Ultimate copy but I just hate it. Thanks for the input!
I had no problem running my Asus ($19.99 + free shipping ;-)) 3450 on an ECS A780 mobo, running XP 32-bit. Get the latest drivers, CCC, etc. from ATI/AMD.
