I see threads like this all over the place, but I haven't come across an answer that solves my problem necessarily. I can't seem to figure out the power supply ratios and formulas to figure out what powers what, so I figured I would enlist the help of people smarter than I.

Newegg had a deal for the last few days on a 700 Watt PSU running 4 12V rails at 16, 14, 14 and 14 amps. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817148040)

The GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked EVGA card says it "recommends 36 amps at 12v". I realize that isn't for the card by itself, but will I be able to run it?

Computer:

Phenom II Deneb 940, stock 3.0Ghz
G Skill 4GB, 1066mhz
EVGA GTX 260 Core 216 Superclocked
700 Watt Apevia power supply

Thats my question, thanks in advance!

Sorry if you guys get a question like this every hour, I just couldn't find an answer that fit my situation, and I'm slightly worried that it won't work together.

(Just bought the PSU a few minutes ago. The rest of the computer wont come in for a little while)

At that price for a 700W PSU, it will be rubbish! :o The PSU is the foundation stone of your PC build, if it is poorly made rubbish it can bring down the whole system amd wreck other components. Get a good make, like Seasonic, fsp, Corsair, Coolermaster, but please pay more, you get what you pay for!

Corsair VX550 would be a good choice.

+1 this is a CRAPY psu. get a nice one. Like its been said, get a Corsair,PC P&C=OCZ, Seasonic ( lots of good PSU have seasonic parts .. ) and few others. CoolerMaster high end PSu are nice too, but not the cheap one. I would grab a Corsair when you can find one in deal somewhere, or a PC P&C

Maybe you're just not very good with numbers... Neither 16, 14, 14, or 14, is 32, amperage or numeric...Ratios, formulas, and powers... gee, 32 equals 32 or more...maybe you should just concentrate on your paper route...

Why I have the PSU is a distinctly different reason. I've used offbrand PSU's for quite some time, and never had a complaint. I just need to know if the PSU itself will numerically support a GTX 260 Core 216 using two 6 pin connectors (16 amp and a 14 amp).

Marcellis, it's not about the numbers on the rails themselves, its about how many amps they can produce total. I just don't know how that works out.

So, assuming that I am stuck with this PSU and unable to get a better brand, does it look like it can at least power it on?

The 32A recommendation doesn't mean it must be on a single rail, it's the total 12V amps.

Cr@p PSUs that claim to be 700W are either lying, or mean 'Peak Power', for 20mS, not sustained maximum power. They weigh very little because they skimp on heatsinks and save money by not fitting overcurrent or overvoltage cutout circuits, so if ut fails it cooks your other components. You are saving a few dollers, but risking hundreds. The advice you have received is clear 'Not Recommended'.

ive decided to get this:

thanks for the input. PSU's are the one component I just don't have a clue about. Gigahertz, megahertz and megabytes all make sense to me. Watts and Amps are over my head :0
