Alright I have a AMD Phenom II 940 with a Zalman CNPS9700 heatsink and my temps are hottttttt
At stock settings they're:
Idle: 45C
Load(prime95): 55C
OC'ed to 3.6GHz with 1.45v
Idle: 50C
Load(Prime95): 62C
I have re-seated the heatsink about 5 times, tried AS5 and the Zalman Super grease, and the temps are still the same. I want to OC this CPU more, but I don't want it to melt in the process. What am I doing wrong to get these temps? Thanks.
Im not an AMD guy these days but some things too check:
Whats the fan speed? Is it set to auto or manual?
Maybe that overclock is too high?Voltage really affects temp alot.
Is it too hot inside Your pc case? What happens to temps if You open case door?
Are You useing too much thermal goo?Its real easy to do too much.Follow instructions found all over the web...Youtube has some videos.
1.45v is extreme stock voltage is 1.325 and you should be able to reach 3.6 on 1.375v
is the fan seated correctly blowing air to the back of the case and out the exaust, whats the ambient temp?

I hit 63C using the stock cooler running 3.5Ghz and 1.375V, I can't even overclock any higher because 3.6 requires more voltage, and my temps climb rapidly if I add anymore.
I idle some where down near 30C due to cool n quiet being on, and yes Cool n Quiet works flawlessly with my overclock.
Do you have good case flow? What are the other temps in your system? How about the room temperature as it'll play a big role in it as well.
