I have an old athlon CPU, An35N-Ultra v1.1 motherboard, and 1024MB ddr400 ram i want to sell. Problem is when i boot the Processor is registered as a Athlon XP 3200+, but the model # on the CPU is AXDA2500DKV4D which i under stand to be a 2500+. I've read that u can trick it into thinking its a 3200+ because u change the BUS speed to 400 or something like that. i got the whole set from my brother so I'm not sure. any help would be appreciated.

You are correct. I did the same with my 2500+ when I had one a couple years back.

Actually you changed the FSB from 166 to 200 and that gave you a bus speed of 400.

Since the 2500 and 3200 both use a bus multiplier of 11, setting the FSB to 400 (well 2x200 actually) runs the CPU at 2.2GHz giving it the same speed as the 3200. The BIOS then sees the CPU speed and assumes it must be a 3200. Yeah that good ol 2500 was a good overclocker for an Athlon XP.

Almost all 2500+ Barton (like mine) are able to run 2.2Ghz (3200+) with stock vcore so no problem there. In fact mine was able to run @3200+ undervolted, I guess that's why it was able to reach 2.6Ghz with ease. One of the all time greats made by AMD.

I had an Athlon XP 2000+ (1.66Ghz) which I use to keep at 2600+ level (2.1Ghz).
All I did was change the FSB from 266MHz to 333MHz. No voltage change.

That barton 2500+ was a great cpu, ran @ 2.2 for years with no problems with a simple bios tweak. In fact I never had the guts to throw it away. I still have it, but not sure if it works any more.

Like others said don't get yourself in trouble and false advertise. Set it back to stock and you can always tell who ever buys it how to make it a 3200+ but with the disclaimer it is at the user's risk.
