Do motherboards affect CPU overclocking?

For example, will a CPU overclocked to 4+ Ghz have less stability problems on a better motherboard?

  1. Not really, you can either get there stable or you can't. Some motherboards just simply do a better job overclocking. Some have better parts on the pcb, such as good quality solid state caps, and superior voltage regulation. Also the "better" more expensive mobo's typically come with more features, and can make tweaking the bios easier.
