Can anyone offer any insight into getting a waiver to pick up Chicago
network stations in Houston. The people at Dish don't seem able or willing
to give out assurances. Apparently the waivers are approved or disapproved
by each station in Chicago but I'd like to know what my odds are? Thanks
for any info.

That's because it's against the (current) law for them to do so.

Waiver good by.
If you want local stations from Chi-town while in Tejas via DISH or
DTV, good luck!

From what I understand the waivers come from the broadcast stations in your
local area where you live not from the Chicago stations. I live in central
Illinois and received a waiver from the local CBS affiliate because I can't
get an acceptable picture with a reasonable antenna. The local ABC & NBC
stations will not grant a waiver. So I'm stuck with a huge antenna to get
marginal reception from them. Believe me, I'm willing to pay for big-city
stations from DirecTV or Dish if I could get the waivers and I'm sure the
Chicago or New York stations would be happy to have me view their signal.
It's the Feds, at the behest of your local broadcasters, who've prohibited
the satellites from offering you a choice of network programming.
