Windows XP no longer has any support, unless there is a game that only runs only under it there is no reason to use it. Some partition managers such as Partition commander allow you to hide the partition Windows 7 is on and will allow you to do the installation. You will need something like Easy BCD to allow you to dual boot after you unhide your Windows 7 partition. If you had Windows 7 Professional or Ulitimate version you can run business programs in virtual PC mode of XP.
  2. Change SATA in the BIOS to compatibility. It is in the first BIOS menu option. XP will install fine on any i5 lenovo
  3. Thanks Starzty. A followup question: If I change SATA to Compatibility will I have dual booting capability or loose windows 7 altogether. Are there any other changes I need to make?

once xp is installed you can go to the lenovo support website and install the intel matrix storage adapter driver. You'll need to go to the directory the driver expands to and run it. You can then go back into the bios and change the setting back to AHCI. This should prevent any problems. Windows 7 will boot in compatibility mode I believe, but you might as well install the SATA driver to maximize your performance.
