DO YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD CAUSE A DIM (ALMOST BLACK) SCREEN ON A LAPTOP THAT HAS A NEW AND TESTED INVERTER, LCD, AND MAINBOARD? IS THERE ANY WAY THAT THIS MAY BE A DRIVER OR BAD FILE ISSUE??? ALSO IT WORKS FINE ON AN EXTERNAL MONITOR

oh and it could be driver problems, i have suffered that myself on my desktop.

^ +1, usually it is a driver problem try removing the drives and reinstalling.
