I had a comp that didnt wanna POST after a reboot it just died on me lol. now i werent too sure if it was the CPU or mobo so i had the mobo tested and yes i can confirm its DEAD lol.
now my question is could my CPU be dead also?
If so, why?
what could of caused the mobo to die?
i dont want to rma the CPU there is no physical sign of damage, the temp on the bios was reading 43 degrees, is that hot for a AMD 9950 Phenom?
let me know if you need anymore information on this matter.
Unplug the power/flip the PSU switch off and reset the CMOS/BIOS. If there are still no beeps/message/anything, try starting the machine with one piece of hardware taken out at a time. You could also try using your PSU in another PC to quickly find out if its dead or not.
i Pray to god that its all good i really dont want to RMA my CPU takes too long lol i should be getting a new mobo in a few days. im getting a Asus M4N78-AM its a nice lil board, im not an overclocker just someone that wants to run crysis at 20-30FPS on a budget (see above for system spec)
so what do you think happened?
i mean it was all fine until a reboot, but i had 2 hit the rest button for it to post even when i first fired the mobo up. why was this?
I agree as well the symptoms point only to a dead mobo.. I've had many processors and none have ever died on me "knock on wood"... Boards though are another story..
yeah touch wood lol well hopefully my CPU is still alive thank you for all your information and support, should be getting a new mobo next week, i will update this page once i have the mobo and fired the beast up once again.
Guys if you are following this thread then have i got news for you, it turns out that the motherboard had a dead BIOS thats right, some how the BIOS just died and didnt want to come to life, the bloke i recieved the board from simply replaced the BIOS and the board is now back to life.
how could the bios of died? was it when i installed the chipset drivers from the disk?
as a result could the CPU be dead or can i now rule this out?
Your question has already been answered - nobody can tell you if your CPU is dead, but chances are small that it is. Not sure what you mean "dead BIOS" - whether the chip was physically dead or just had corrupted data in it. If you were messing around with BIOS updates/flashing/reflashing, then you probably did it, otherwise don't worry about it.
Enjoy your new MB!

i think it was physically dead, as i did not mess around with it software wise i didnt attemp to flash it as there was no need to. but a replacement BIOS chip was all it took to bring the mobo back to life.
IT LIVES!!!! IT LIIIIIVVVEESSS!
(like we said the CPU probably isnt dead, they are tough b4stards, except for dust hmmmmm)
