Read dvd-r on a dvd/cdrw drive

My QSI DVD/CDRW SBW-081 will not recognize or read DVD-R's. Is there anyway to read these with this device?

It may be written on the box. and the manual with it.
Or you can even go to the website of the company which made that product.
