hi I just built my 1st system and I made a mistake ordering ram. I have a intel board DX58SO that supports tripple channel ram, when I looked at picture of board not reading i noticed it had 4 dimm slots so instead of purchasing a tripple channel kit I purchased a quad kit 4 sticks of (CORSAIR XMS3 8GB DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 PC3 12800 CMX8GX3M4A1600C9) stupid I know.
Anyway my question is can I use only 3 sticks and will my board run as tripple channel. My cpu is I7 950
thanks

I'm fairly certain that you can still run dual-channel memory with the Core i7's, but don't quote me on that.

To answer your question, yes, you could just choose not to use one of your sticks of RAM, but that's a bit of a waste.
