Hello i have a system with a AMD phenom x3 8400 2.1Ghz.. It currently runs at 2.52Ghz thats the highest i can get with just pulling up the buss speed to 240 and the voltage to 1.2625.. Ram runs at 960mhz too with voltage at 1.99.. runs stable i have tested with prime95 highest temps i get are 28c at 100% in 18 hours with an NorthQ 3580 water cooled cpu cooler..

So my question is if i can overclock it higher i havn't touched the "HT link, nb frequency.." just the bus speed.. I once changed something of it a little and got it booted into windows with 2.58ghz but i could not get it stable. could anyone of you tell me what the "HT link, Nb frequency..." or just anyway i could get it higher if possible :)

I am thinking of an upgrade to a 1055T because the CPU really bottlenecks my Ati 4870 ::(

Thanks - Rani :sol:

You have two options if you're looking to upgrade - the 1055T and 1090T. The difference is that one has an unlocked multiplier so you wouldn't need to push your ram so hard. Both chips can get to 4.0GHz, but the 1055T needs a pretty large FSB.

Anyway regarding you're actual quesiton..

Can you change your RAM ratio down to see if it your RAM that's holding you at 2.52GHz? I assume your RAM is 800MHz by default?

If you're planning on upgrading I wouldn't faff about too much, just keep it stable at 2.52 and save your pennies!

Yeah i can change the ratio so the memory runs at 800mhz. but really thinking about upgrading to the 1055T.. should be a great cpu to overclock too.. :)

The 1055T is a very good chip, unless my memory deceives me though you can only use 4GB of 1066MHz+ RAM. For example.. I'm planning on getting the 1090T and currently have 8GB of 800MHz which is the fastest RAM I can have with that CPU with that quantity.

(someone please correct me if I'm not right here..)

But yeah.. the 1055T is a good CPU that can overclock to 4.0GHz on air. You'll be very happy with it.
