How to set internet explorer as default browser in windows xp

Dear Sir/madam;
i want internet explorer as my default web browser but it is not getting activated even if i set is as default in control pane-add or remove program-set,coustom .............. the system is showing as threat detected

What is your default browser then ? You can open IE, go to options, Advanced tab and check the default browser check box it should work If not then scan with a good antivirus.
