My usb device isnt recognized at all

Hello,
when i plug my external hd in to usb if i uninstalled the drivers it recognizes enough to install drivers but that's it! i can't access it at all! it's not in my computer or in device manager what can i do?

First thing to check is whether the USB drive works in another computer. If it doesn't, the drive is defective.

a HDD should not need drivers to run, windows should recognize it as a mass storage device and use in-built drivers.

as JSC said, test in in another system. also, try using a different USB port in case its the port that is defective.

is the HDD formatted to the right format? is it new? used with another system before now?
