Can I replace the 2Gb module with a 4Gb module so I would have a 2Gb along with a 4Gb for a total of 6Gb of ram? Would the 64bit os and mobo accept that? I don't want to know what the Dell website specifies for maximum upgrade, but I do want to know the actual results....

I would follow the mobo manual's recommendation (i.e. what the Dell website specified). Of course you can experiment and let us know how it turns out. :)

Not what you were looking for perhaps but the safest course.

Dell's website specifies a maximum of 4Gb of ram with a cpu of Core 2 Duo E8600. I have already violated its specifications in MANY ways including upgrading to Core 2 Quad Q8200 and Q9550 on LGA 775. Dell Vostro 220 has been running flawlessly for a year now, even with the addition of a 400W Nvidia GeForce 9800GT. However, I clearly do not see why I can't switch the ram....

hey dude, do generic PSUs fit in the Vostro 220's PSU bay? Or does Dell have a proprietary size? We have the same box, but I have the stock PSU and i'll need to upgrade it if i want to move up from an 8600GT...

Mike, how do I know what CPUs does my Vostro 220 support?
