Why am i unable to cut and paste various websites?

Tell me why I used to be able to cut and paste on Windows XP--and now I can't )and this has been going on for a long time now.) I see a website and I highlight it, but when I go up to "Edit" I can't copy it, so I can't paste it. What's the deal? It's VERY inconvenient to no longer be able to cut and paste websites, text, numbers, statistical charts, etc. WHAT IS THE PROBLEM!!???!!

Which browser are you using? I can copy/paste with firefox. Of course some web pages are designed so they can't be copied. If text is displayed as an image, you can't select any of the text, but only the image as a whole.
