so decided to try overclocking my new CPU for fun didn't think i would break 3.6ghz on it with a stock cooler. well i was wrong.

stock CPU:

Vcore: 1.4v
BCL: 201
Multi: 17
idle temp: 35C
load temp: 45C

Overlocked to 4.0ghz

Vcore: 1.45 (displays as 1.44)
BCL: 201
Multi: 20
Idle temps: 42C
load temp 68C (prime 95 for 6 hours seems stable)

was pretty surprised for a processor under 200$ it very fast though the 6MB cache is a bit of a drag.
Anyone know how high it could go on water cooling? I'd problably get a swiftech cooler.

also if anyone is in question about buying this processor i'd recomend it.

wow that is a really good oc but those temps are crazy high for daily use. On water you may be able to get 4.2-4.3 with temps under 50c. you really should keep your max temp to under 55c though any higher than that and your chip degrades pretty fast.

yeah i know what you mean i only kept this to see if it was indeed stable which it is. i find it kinda odd that the stock voltage is so high though seeing as for now i have it OC'd to 3.8Ghz with 0.050v under stock. AMD must like stability.

Well, AMD makes way better stock heatsinks than Intel, most people know that XD The Deneb stock heatsink isn't bad as they actually use heatpipes and a 92 or 120mm fan I believe. I'm also pretty sure they collab'd with Asus or CM to make it, can't remember which company.

@cinnaman: So your mainboard is a Gigabyte. Great choice I guess. My stock cooler on this same cpu runs so hot on an MSI 890gxm motherboard. It horribly sucks!

I think I need to get a Cogage or Scythe cpu air-cooler asap to save this Phenom II x4 965 from dying.

Fail. HAHA It's not the mobo issue, what's your 965 running at.

You're right. It's not a mobo issue, it's a fan issue my friend. My problem is solved now!
When I bought this mainboard 890gxm-g65, I also bought a Phenom CPU, but the store supplied me with a stupid low class stock CPU cooler which I thought was a standard AMD fan, it turns out it was not the fan designed for a Phenom II x4 965. It's too ******* small and freaking slow making the CPU temp run at 73 C idle! WTF? They try to mess with me it pissed me off. I returned to the store after I found this out and beat the hell crap out of the responsible technician fool until he gave me the correct CPU cooler for my processor. That piece of *** will never mess with me again!
