hello community

need a bit of advice on cooler.

just built my first system with 955 be, antec 902 case, 6870x2 and asrock 870 extreme3 board. :D

my stock cooler is just too loud.

i need advice on a new cooler with these being the most important criteria -

1. easy to install
2. quiet
3. price $40 or under preferably

i am leaving everthing running at stock speeds for the first couple months. i will eventually overclock - mildly though.

also, what would be the best paste for me to get and what is the best (safest) way for me to remove the current paste.

thanks for help

There's nothing to beat price/performance of hyper 212+... if its just mild OC then it should be taken care by the cooler...

Go for arctic silver 5 if you can spare around $10... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100007
or if you want to go budget then you could any for around $5... they are all the same in performance...

If you want to go for a pro compound for removing the grease then buy the Arctic Silver Thermal material Remover & Surface Purifier for around $10 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835100010
for budget try Tuniq TR-1 for around $5 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835154006 ... I just use a nail polish remover (with high isopropyl alcohol concentration)...

use a cotton pad or cotton ball for cleaning... remove the cpu if needed for better accessibility and clean it till you see a near mirror shine on the cpu base... then reseat the cpu carefully and apply a small amount of the paste (about the size of a pea)... lot of people recommend to leave it like that and slap on the heater but i spread the paste on the entire base of the cpu to form a thin and even coat (using a condom or a loose plastic bag)... then seat the heater on properly and secure it using the screws (a "tight" hold but not too much... just tighten it till the screw stops turning... do not force it on; the system will give memory errors if its too tight)... and you are good to go...
