I currently have an E6600 running at 3.2ghz and an 8800 gt 512 video card. I play some MMOs and usually run 1920x1200 resolution. My question is if I were to build a new system using a Phenom II 920 and a HD4850x2 1gig card would I notice much of a performance difference when it comes to gaming?

for MMOs i'm not sure if you'd notice a huge change in performance. you will definitely have smoother game play, but most of the playability for an MMO lies in your internet connection.

How about for games like Left 4 Dead or Bioshock. Is the performance of the Phenom II and HD4850x2 going to be a decent performance boost for me? I guess what I'm really asking is would building this system to replace my current one in terms of gaming (both MMO and single player) be worth it for me or will the performance increase (or lack there of?) not justify the upgrade?

The HD 4850 X2 can get 125 fps in Bioshock at 1920x1200.

What are you getting now with the 8800GT?

In Left 4 Dead at 1920x1200, the HD 4850 X2 gets 68 fps

Getting anywhere from 60-70 FPS with that resolution on L4D. I guess its more of a lateral exchange and not so much an upgrade. Guess Ill just put off the urge to upgrade a bit longer. Thanks for the response.

Just noticed occasion FPS dips to 40-45 FPS, not sure whats causing it but I assume its always been there.

Maybe the game needs to load new things from the hard drive? That could cause dips, I guess. Is it a good drive?

Its a 320 gig WD drive. Dont recall which model exactly but it was one everyone from this side liked for its speed back when 320 gigs was where price met value.
