Is there any way to avoid having to re-install al your software after a CPU upgrade? I am planning to go from a Pentium 4 to a core 2 quad. I think the answer to my question is no but one can always hope.
If you're changing motherboards, you need to back up your files with a program such as norton ghost or use your vista software to do a backup before changing the board out. If just the cpu, then the answer is no. But be sure your motherboard bios version supports the new cpu.
I am going to change motherboard and CPU. I have my programs and data in seperate partitions. I can easily backup both partititions. For this situation I think you are saying I will have to re-intsall all programs. Is that correct?
