The i7 is better because you can't install 2 x Q8400 on a motherboard.

Dual CPU server mobos?

Dual socket server motherboards require Xeon CPUs and they often don't even have a single PCIe x16 slot. RAID controllers and other adaptors only require x8 or x4 slots.
