Hi guys, I have a 250$ budget for a GPU and I'm planning on getting something with a little more punch than my last card. I have an 850W psu (corsair) and a 1680x1050 22'' monitor.
My main consideration was between the GTX 275 or the ATI 4890. I know the 4890 can overclock pretty well, but the GTX 275 (both @ stock speeds) beats the ATI 4890 in most cases. I don't have watercooling, but I do like to overclock a tad. Would like to play everything on Very High w/ AA until DX11 cards come out. :D
Thanks :hello:

the 4890 has a lot more going for it, its better with modern games DX10.1 will give about a 15% boost in games that have support, it runs cooler that ATIs previous gen the 4870, the drivers are rock solid, im very happy with my 4890, though it does not overclock as far as i would have hoped, probably has something to do with the make

If you allready have a quad cpu (posting specs helps posters make more accurate recommendations) and plan to keep the same monitor, a single 4870 1 gig is plenty unless you have to max out crisis or need SLI bragging rights. The cards youre looking at are more future proof though, a little overkill for 16x10 display.

I'm looking for future proof. I just want to spend the a good medium so that I can last about 2 years without having to upgrade.

CPU: i7 920
Ram: DRR3 @1600

I was really leaning towards the GTX 275, I like Nvidia, but never had an ATI card. I'm somewhat biased, but the DX 10.1 seems nice.
Argh!

Don't use dx 10.1 or physx as a deciding factor. Neither one really matters right now. I would go for the fastest you can afford for the price. What motherboard do you have? I would probably go with the 4890. and maybe crossfire later. I have seen reviews that favor the 275 and reviews that favor the 4890. The 4890 probably oc's better but you have to worry about possible driver issues especially with windows 7 if you are using that. With vista I have had little issues with either ati or nvidia in crossfire or sli, but with win 7 I ran into issues with xfire 4870's where the 2 gtx 285 work flawless.

I'll probably get the RC of Windows 7 as soon as possible (I don't mind Vista, but have yet to try the 7 beta).
I have a Evga x58 mobo, so I can run Tri-Sli (but I never will). I'll wait a week or two, see if any card comes out on top. I like the fact that the 4890 costs less too.
