This largely depends on how many peripherals and hard drives you have hooked up.

That card will need about 16 - 18a free amps on the the 12v rail.

I reviewed the mechanical diagram of your powersupply and the PCIe connector is powered by 12v number 2 but the same rail is shared by the 4-pin connector/s for the motherboard. The third rail powers the molex connectors, one which will be needed for your card since you need 2xPC-e to power the card.

Soo.. if you have available amperage the 12v3 rail and the 12v2 rail it may work.
Its hard to tell with actually plugging it in to see what happens.

I highly recommend using power supplies with a single 12v rail in the future or at least thoroughly researching the 12v rails to see what they power. (dedicated 12v rails for pci-e connectors for example).

Also coolmax is not considered to be up to snuff for quality and efficiency either.

If you have the money to buy another psu after the fact buy the 285 test it and see what happens and then buy a replacement psu if necessary.

Yeah, take gkay09's advice and get a weaker power supply than the one you have. LOL.
All those you listed are junk except for the first one, but it doesnt have enough juice.

Id recommend this one:

If you plan on SLI later you better get a quality 700w or better.

Hahaha even your is weaker compared to his PSU :P check before you comment :p ...

Theoretically the PSU that he has, has 51amps in total at the 12V rails combined...
And your has 41amps :p

The reason that I had suggested the EA 500 is that a high quality 500W PSU is better than a low quality 600W :P

I think he wanted to stay below $60 so only he had linked those PSUs...
If it was more, this PSU is better than the corsair 550W for a less price...
Antec EA650...

I think the Corsair 550VX is a great choice, could go for the TX650. Modular - HX620

he's right i wanted to stay below $60 , i all ready spent a *** of money as it is, wouldn't the XION be better it has a hell of a lot more amps, 71amps

GKAY09, I think your retarded.

The power supply you suggested has 2- 17a rails. The power supply he already owns has 2- 18a and 1-15a rail.

The one I suggested has 1- 41a rail.

Put down the crack pipe.

The Corsair is stronger and better, but that was kinda harsh lol. The Antec has 408W on the 12V rails. Which means 34AMPS combined but the Corsair has 492W combined so it has 41AMP on a single rail which is more reliable and stronger. The Corsair would definitely be a better choice. :bounce:

Ohh well if you think am retarded then you should be one too... :P Mind you words :non: ...it wont take me long to make such comments on you...
You would certainly know that those low quality PSUs just specify those power ratings, would certainly not give out that much power...
And the one I had suggested is a 80+ PSU which indicates that it would give out the specified power...
And can you give a link where they are selling the Corsair 550 for $59 :ouch: ...I dont seem to find them anywhere below $79...without rebates???
Well $59 including rebates if you are lucky to get the rebates...

Yes the corsair is very good...If you are ok with rebates, then get the Corsair 550W...
But if you dont like to go through the rebate process, then get this...$79 but no rebates...

Either the Corsair or the above can easily handle the 285...And dont mind our word fights :p these always happen...

Dude, what are you talking about. You recommended a weaker power supply than the OP already had, how stupid is that? Then you instead of admitting you screwed up try to say that I picked a crappy one?? LOL.

The one I suggested is also 80+ and has much more power than the one you suggested.

Lets do a refresher shall we, heres the link to the power supply you recommended to him, which is much less powerful than the tri-rail he already has. 2- 17a rails.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817371007

Now.....stay with me here gkay09, this is the 80+ (actually up to 85%) I recommended with 1-41a, yes that's FORTY ONE AMPS. Still with me guy? And since you apparently didnt see the link the first time I'll post it again just for the slow people.....YOU!

Secondly, if you do your rebates correctly, and you follow dirrections, you will get them. In the last 6 months I did rebates with OCZ twice, Corsair, Crucial, MSI, XFX, ASUS, and Patriot and got every single one of them back. I can see why you probably had problems with rebates in the past. Your reading comprehension is about elementary school level.

 Well you certainly must be an English teacher I guess :P

And first of all even you should do the same - Read carefully what I had said...
Do I anywhere say that the Corsair is a crappy one... :P Mayb you should start taking comprehensions lessons too...
I had said " Theoretically speaking its weaker"...which is correct as he has 51amps combined as compared to the corsair's 41 amps...Again see the Theoretical part...
Do you even understood what I was talking about :P

If you check out any of the thread I had replied, Corsair was my first recommendation...

Now like Rags said "Enough said"
move on to another thread... ;)

No.

The power supply you recommended him has 34 amps on 2 rails. The one he already has 3 rails, 2 18a and 1 15a.
I recommended one big 41 amp quality power supply for his new card. What part of this dont you get?
