Disappearing Desktop Icons

Running Windows XP, recently installed free download for Parental control software. Since then, icons on desktop have disappeared, cannot modify desktop at all (right click does nothing), and have UNinstalled the Parental control software.... still, desktop not working.

Messing with the user control is a little tricky. You can try a few things from run command with gpedit.msc, or from registry menu, but ONLY if you know what you're doing!
I would recommend making a new user, with administrator rights for yourself, and a guest account with restrictions for your children.

The software that I installed is Net Nanny... thanks for your input...will try a few more things here....
