Hello, Da name is ravern and im finally digging that 6 foot deep hole for my old computer lol.

This will be my first build ever in my life. I did a little research, tell me if it will work out... Here we go

Antec 902 :D .
Pretty spacious Casse, comes with 4 cool blue led fans. the one in the back for exhaust runs a little loud according to alot of reviews so i'm going to replace it.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Next up is the processor :o .
I heard i7 is the way to go for gaming now, so i looked into the 950, because its like the mid tier of it, and im sure it could OC very well. not sure though.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Then the mobo. :o  Imma get a gigabyte atx x58. I dont really need that much crap to go on it. plus it supports triple channel and SLI :D
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
is gigabyte reliable?!?

Then the GPU :o  I heard ati isnt that great so im going with two of this card on SLI. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
. It is overclocked to pretty good speeds and stuffplus its cheap, so i can SLI to my happiness. *note* Im not familiar to anything of this new age performance stuff lol. I never OCed anything but i plan on trying.* lol

Memory... Since the board supports triple channel, which is good? lol is it? i looked up a triple channel kit, imma get 6gb first, then probably buy another 6 more gb later on lol. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

i heard corsair is the only name to trust in Memory aswell so these were perfect i guess.

Next up... I wanna OC my i7, so i guess i need more coooling, so i was going to install 1 120mm case fan to the window of the case, then replace the exhaust one that comes with it, turn it into a intake... and get 2 exhaust pci slot fans, then a cpu heat sink and fan. so here are all of these.

2x for exhaust. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

1 for window fan and 1 for replacing the exhaust fan so 2x. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Dropping this onto the i7 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

with this compound
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

then this fan has better cfm then the one that comes with the heatsink so... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

okay, i think that should keep it cool? idk... what do you think?

Then there is the hard drive... all i need is my 20 gigs for music and like 10 gigs for games. and i should be happy.. so i dont need that much. i also heard western digital is the only name you should trust for HD's. plus my MOBO supports Sata6gps. so i looked at this.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

lol. Then 2 cold cathodes because i like shiny stuff.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Then the monitor. I decided i wanted an hdmi monitor because the gts 450's came with a hdmi interface, plus this is a cheap screen with 2ms response time :D

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

For the OS, windows 7 64 bit professional.

then the inputs.

I liked razors keyboards and mouses, so i got these...

Combo mouse and pad
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?Ite...

lycosa mirror edition keyboard
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

and headphones
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

then this is a big question... HOW MUCH CAN I OC this machine??? and how much power do i need.

I just want a good Gaming pc for right now. something that doesnt have any fps lag at all. i just wanna run flash games perfectly and actual games like Combat arms, and left 4 dead on ultra quality without lag. 3.06 ghz is okay, i just wanna know how much i can oc this without it dying on me the next morning lol. and how much power should i need.

I wanna get to atleast 3.8 ghz if not 4.0 ghz. but um someone told me that this psu should support me

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
.

should i do a different cooling setup?

Will this even work together?

will all the blue leds heat my system up?

can i even OC this thing to 3.6ghz?

is this a good build for what i want it to handle?

Please and thank you.

Someone who told you there is something wrong with ATi cards is either a nVidia fanboy, or just chowed down on a big bowel movement. Two GTS450s in SLI will provide good performance, but immediately limit your upgrade path. If you prefer nVidia, get just one 1GB GTX460. MSI and Gigabyte have nice coolers on theirs. If you will consider ATi, then a single HD6850 will offer similar performance, and a HD6870 will be a little stronger. Any of those options will allow you to add a second card later, when you need it. The ATi cards use less power under load, and the nVidia card offers PhysX if your games use that (few do). Although I generally prefer ATi, my primary system is running a GTX460 because I play Sacred 2, one of the few titles that uses PhysX.
The particular model you've chosen may not be "bad," but Rosewill does not have a good reputation for PSUs. I personally use Antec or Seasonic, but Corsair, Enermax, and XFX are also good.
The WD Black drives are decent, but the weight of recommendations seems to favor the Samsung Spinpoint F3 for performance. No matter the brand, stick to 1TB or smaller, as the larger drives are still experiencing higher failure rates.
On case cooling, the rear (including the PSU) and top (if present) fans should be exhausts, and the front and side (if present) should be intake, to create a good natural flow (i.e. heat rises) through a case. Case choice is a very personal matter, but the Antec cases I've used have all been high quality. Their fans are nothing special, but they aren't noisy. Only spend money on replacement fans if you aren't satisfied with the stock.

Thanks JT.

I was kind of byass with intel and Nvidia.

Im now looking at AMD cpus and mobos and finding out how cheaper it is o-o.

I was thinking about possibly dropping the i7 and go with an phenom x4 965 Black edition clocked at 3.4ghz

Clock it to around 3.8ghz. then get like a super dooper graphics card... not nothing in the 500 ranges. but something like 200-300 maybe 350 ish.

The problem is finding boards that would support a good cpu cooler without sacrificing the dual channel memory on amd.

not really sure. o-o.

how many gb's fit into a tb? o-o and ill consider it.

I also heard the cooler master 212+ is super pro.

Not really sure.

I dont think sli will benefit in the long run anymore, it just makes it look like your computer is super beefed up with 2 VGA cards with quad fans on them linked with a cable. but i finally looked at benchmarks and they still sli connected dont compare to a new high end card.

Could you help me build some gaming rig preferrably around 1,600 and lower. using good brand parts like cosair, gigabyte asus. stuff like that.

like an AMD build and a Intel build.

Something Quad core with a good mobo with it.

I dont need SLI or cross fire now but in the future. lol so leave me 2 pci e 2.0 x16 ports.

im about to post what i came up with.. please review for me.

I know these arn't a headset, but it comes with an inwire mic. plus i can plug it into the back of my keyboard and use it with my ipod. :D

Im stickin to the WD. I dont trust 1tb hard drives yet and i really want it in the 900 2 case. :) .

not sure on the power supply or ram though. o-o, Do you think this all would fit okay in the 900 2 case, and should i have room to put the ram in with the cpu cooler?

this only costs 1,370 bucks with shipping, but i still get 30 bucks back after that. for a 1,340ish build i get keyboard, mouse, monitor, good vga, and some cool mic + speaker headphones. with a 3.4 stock core... ?!?!?

I would choose a newer, 800-series chipset mobo (although you are getting USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/sec). I often choose ASRock ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... would be nice), but Gigabyte (and Asus) are also excellent brands. These will be Crossfire-capable boards, not SLI, so choose an ATi GPU. A HD6870 will fit your budget. According to the article at http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6870-rade... the HD6870 trades shots with the GTX470, but uses much less power, runs much cooler, and makes less noise.
The WD Black drive is in the same league as the Spinpoint F3; even if it isn't quite as fast in some tests, it isn't a big deal.
That CAS7 RAM looks nice, but the heat spreaders will likely interfere with your HSF. Try these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... instead, or if you're willing to accept CAS8, these have lower heat spreaders: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
It is so easy to overclock a X4 955BE to 965 or 970 levels that it is hard to justify the price difference, unless you really aren't comfortable overclocking.

Thanks!!!! Okay. I also heard Asrock is the cheaper branch of Asus, is that right?

And by switching to the mobo and ram you got, i saved out like 100 bucks. :D

Now, the graphic card debate. lol...

Do you know what led color is on that mobo you told me about? o-o.

cause i would love everything to be black and blue. cause it matches the case and the razer equipment. its a pretty cool setup color schematic wise. :D

Okay.

the HD6870 is perfect. it out does the mid tier vgas i was going to Crossfire lol. the HD 5770's. but anyways. the only one i would get is the Gigabyte. and it is 2.1 pci express x16... o-o... Would that run on the asrock mobo?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
???

anyways. about the CPu thingy.

All i want is something a ton better then what i got.

Which is the intel pentium 4, 2.66ghz, 768mb ram,
Ati 9250 256mb vga and stock everything else...

Im guessing 3.2+ would show like 3x more performance then what i got now?!?!!? I mean my ram is clocked at 400 mhz looool...

I just want to run games in liquid smooth frames per seconds. and not the high end super dooper 1080p Square eniz type of graphics. something old school mid tier. like CS source and Combat arms. kinda like a little above halo 1 graphics on windows xp. :p

And does Cpu GHZ effect game play and frame rate and things? o-o

this is what i got now.

If the Hd6870 dosnt work with that mobo, do you think that 650W psu would support dual

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

Hd5770's with Crossfirex??? Anyways, could it support what i got now? and ermmm Do i need the top of the phenom x4? o-o is there a cheaper 3.2 model? o-o
and would it work the same? o-o

Altogether this would cost me $1250ish with the hd6870
and $1240ish with the crossfirex hd5570's which has the same benchmarksish and is garanteed to work on the 2.0 pci-ex16

What do you think?

That PSU can handle 2xHD6870. They will work in that mobo. It is good that you're starting with one; you may never need the second.
It is not hard to do better than what you are running now. An Athlon II X2 and a HD5670 would leave it in the dust.
The monitor you have selected is 1920x1080, which I think is fairly common now. I'm not sure you'll like the lack of an adjustable stand though. For example, there is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Your other choices (e.g. mouse, KB, earphones) are all personal choice items, so I really don't have much to say about them.

Yeah, the monitor i looked at and it basically sits on the desk lol.

I love it because its asus and its cheap, and it comes with 2ms response and hdmi input. i was probably going to set it on a small monitor bench lol. and the max i ever ran anything was like 1200x950 lololol. so im probably not going to use anything higher than the 1400's.

I looked at razers because they are preferred for first person shooters. but they are kinda expensive.. lol. Is there anything else thats basically the same thing that glows blue though and a little cheaper but works too?
