So I'm pretty much set on the GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD4P ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

Close-up Photos of mobo

My concern is that I currently plan on ordering the Vigor Monsoon III LT Dual 120mm Fan CPU Cooler Socket 1366 Ready

Many people have recommended the tried and true XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler which seems more more conservative spacewise, and easy to install.

I'm not comfortable removing heatsinks from the mobo if necessary or soldering anything. Yet, I have a good 'combo' newegg deal on that Vigor Monsoon (putting it at $45 after rebates) so I thought I'd pony up for it as it came highly recommended on Tom's Build-A-PC challenge as the best cooling option for the i7.

Thanks in advance for any help!

PS- Also, space constraint wise, I thought I'd mention I'm using a COOLER MASTER RC-690-KKN1-GP Black SECC/ ABS ATX Mid Tower Computer Case and mounting a GIGABYTE GV-N285-1GH-B GeForce GTX 285 1GB 512-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card into the first PCI 2.0 x16 slot

I don't think you will have space issues with the Vigor Monsoon in your setup. No soldering or anything is necessary, you just screw it onto the mobo using the backplate.

the only possible problem i could ever see is the the fan might ever so slightly stand over the closest ram slot (don't think it will happen though) and even so as long as you don't have corsair dominator ram or something else with a giant heat sink your going to be just fine. This happened on a build of mine. My hyper 212 covers both sticks but its on a mATX board and not a problem at all. out of curiosity, what case are you using?

Looking at the Noctua NH-U12P right now actually. It's like $10 more, but it reviews as the bst on the market...

Not sure if I should pony up for this or go with something like the Dark Knight

Is that heatsink bigger than the Thermalight Ultra 120 extreme 1366? I run Corsair Dominator on my P6T deluxe and there is room for a fan. However, it is a bit crowded. The Thermalight Ultra 120 extreme 1366 with artic silver 5 keeps my i7 - 920 to 35c idle & 71c max load after running prime 95 for 30 hours. I didn't lap it yet, but I was thinking about it to see if I could get lower temps.

Opting to go the Noctua or Dark Knight. Haven't *fully* decided yet. The Noctua is a good $20-25 more, but it seems to be the absolute top of the line and seems to be a quality company that looks after it's customers (BFG'ish). As people who had the previous socketed version of their heatsink/fan were given free brackets for the X58 mobos for free.
