I've been reading that the IGP can eat into the memory bandwidth of a motherboard, but I have not been able to find if by disabling it and going discrete if it will help the said bandwidth. Anybody have an ideas?

^ The onboard IGP gets its memory share from the RAM...It doesnt not eat into the bandwidth but the Quantity of RAM(Amount of memory assigned to the IGP in the BIOS)...So you wont notice any reduction in the bandwidth...
And adding a discrete graphics card, will help regain the assigned memory for the IGP...

Also few people could even tell the performance difference between dual-channel and single-channel, so you really shouldn't worry about the IGP.
