Overclocked AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ is Overheating.

I've had this cpu overclocked from 2.1 to 2.6 ghz for about a year now and it has just now started overheating to 80-90 c when playing games. It use to run at a smooth 50-60 c. It's got a stock heatsink on it. I haven't changed anything in the case. I just cleaned the fans and grills of the case a few hours ago and it is still overheating... any ideas?

don't overclock extreme with Stock cooler, use after market like Hyper 212 or better like Tuniq Tower, Noctua etc
add fan 80mm min for exhaust

Replaced the stock HSF with a Xigmatek Apache HSF and used artic silver. Also added a 120mm fan to the front of my Xion Solaris case. its back down to 50-60 c.
