I have had an account with dish network for the past 6 years using the
same 301 reciever. Constantly competing for it has led me to look for
a dual reciever like the 522. My contract is up next month so it is
prime time to make my move.
Question: What is the best option for getting one without paying
$5/ month for another reciever as I am not a new customer. I know
they don't like to part with those very easily. Has anyone
successfully gotten them to furnish a 522 upon a renewal contract and
if so what were the requirements? Secondly if I was to just buy one
on Ebay what is involved in account and equipment changes? I would
like to keep this as simple as possible but can do the installation
myself if needed. Any other hints along those lines would be greatly
appreciated. Thanks.

From what I understand (I'm about to start new service with DISH Network,
with one 522 receiver), because the 522 has two receivers, you will be
charged the extra $5/month for the second receiver. If you get any other
new _single_ receiver such as 511, you won't be charged the extra $5/mo.

DISH also has upgrade plans which should mean that you can get a new
receiver if you "qualify" (whatever that means). I believe then they charge
only shipping, but if you visit their web site you should get all the
details.
