i have an acer aspire laptop and the hard drive is fried which model would i need to replace the hard drive

You will need to give us your laptop model number.

There are only two types of notebook drives in this world, SATA and IDE. To find out which you need, we need your model number to find the specs on your laptop. A link to your model on the acer website would be even more useful. By the way, why didn't you call acer and ask them?
