I have an Abit IP35 Pro and ever since and I have tried two Q9550 processors. I have the latest version of bios but the board still does not recognize my processor. I have double checked with Abit and it is supposed to support the Q9550 CPU. However, this is a known problem with 45mn CPUs and this board. DOES ANYONE KNOW A WORK AROUND OR FIX? Surely someone else has come across this. Thank you for your help.

From what I've gleaned, the problem is usually solved by upgrading the BIOS, there appears to be problem with the stock BIOS with the faster CPU's.
I don't know which version your motherboard came with but the newest version is ID 17
This update, according to ABIT:

#1 Fixed 45nm CPU compatibility and support CPU half multiplier.
#2 Fixed the Wake Up by WAKE# of PCIe function abnormality.
#3 Fixed system hang when used Intel PXE CPU series.
#4 Fixed CPU temperature abnormality when S3 return.

If you really want to run one of the latest processors, why don't you just bite the bullet and get a new board that will make the most out of that new processor, instead of fiddling around trying to make an old board work with something it was never really designed for in the first place? Anyhow, my 2 cents.

Well I don't have the money to replace the board. I sold my old CPU as part of a build and though I would use the money to upgrade the CPU in my system. Thought wrong because Abit sucks! Had I known that it really wasn't compatible I would never have done it! Anyway it doesnt matter because I tried to flash the BIOS to an older version and the power fukin flickered!!! So I was thinking about going with a Asus or Intel board? Any suggestions of who makes the best board? Don't want any thing like this Abit board again! I have built several Intel board systems in the past and never had any problems but their board are expensive and very picky on RAM voltages.
